Individual Therapy
We offer individual therapy for the following speech, language, & communication concerns:
-
Articulation - Difficulty producing speech sounds correctly. Common errors include difficulty saying R, S, L, or TH.
Phonology - A pattern-based speech difficulty where a child simplifies groups of sounds (like leaving off ending sounds or substituting whole sound patterns). This impacts how speech sounds are organized and understood. These patterns are normal in early development, but are expected to decrease by age 3-5
Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) - A motor speech disorder where the brain has trouble planning and coordinating the movements needed for speech. Children may know what they want to say, but their speech may sound inconsistent or effortful.
-
Receptive - The ability to understand words, sentences, and meaning. This includes following directions, answering questions, and comprehending what others say.
Expressive - The ability to use words, sentences, and gestures to communicate thoughts, needs, and ideas. This includes vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, and storytelling.
Pragmatic - The use of language in social situations—like taking turns in conversation, staying on topic, understanding tone of voice, and interpreting social cues
-
Early Literacy Skills are foundational skills needed for reading and writing, including recognizing letters, understanding sounds, and developing early print awareness.
Phonemic Awareness - The ability to hear and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in words (e.g., identifying that “cat” has three sounds: /k/ /a/ /t/)
Phonological Awareness - A broader skill that includes recognizing and working with sounds in spoken language—such as rhyming, syllables, and sound patterns.
-
Skills that help children interact, connect, and communicate effectively with others, such as:
Conversation skills
Social understanding
Nonverbal Communication
Play & Peer Interaction
Problem Solving & Flexibility
Self-Regulation
Self Advocacy
-
When a child is not meeting expected milestones in areas like speech, language, motor skills, or social development at the typical age. This can sometimes be associated with various medical or genetic conditions
-
A developmental difference that can impact communication, social interaction, and behavior. Speech therapy often supports language, social communication, and functional skills.
At KindBloom, we offer neuro-affirming care which means:
Honoring each child’s strengths and interests
Supporting communication in all forms (spoken language, AAC, gestures, etc.)
Creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment
Partnering with families to support the whole child
-
We support children in becoming confident readers through playful literacy experiences. Our reading and reading comprehension sessions focus on building essential skills such as letter/sound knowledge, rhyming, decoding, understanding stories, answering questions, making predictions, recalling details, vocabulary growth, sequencing, and connecting ideas.
-
AAC includes all the ways a person can communicate besides (or in addition to) talking.
This can include:
Gestures (pointing, waving)
Sign language
Picture systems (like PECS)
Communication devices or apps
AAC helps children express their wants, needs, thoughts, and ideas—especially if speaking is difficult. It does not prevent speech development; in fact, it often supports and encourages it!
-
Executive Functioning - Mental skills that help with planning, organizing, remembering, focusing attention, and managing tasks or emotions.
Self Advocacy - The ability to understand and communicate one’s own needs, preferences, and rights. This includes asking for help, expressing feelings, and making choices.
-
A fluency disorder that affects the flow of speech. It may include repetitions (I…I...I…I want), prolongations (sssssssay), or blocks (ele—fant) that can make speaking feel effortful and “bumpy”.
